Where the water goes and what we fix at each stop
Good shingle roof drainage moves water in this order, and we check it the same way.
-
Valleys
The pitch funnels the heaviest runoff here, so we repair them and lay ice and water shield underneath.
-
Roof edges
Drip edge installation, step and kick-out flashing repair, or replacing flashing too far gone to reseal.
-
Gutters
One-piece runs, repairs, cleaning and guards.
-
Downspouts
Rerouted or extended to let out where you want.
-
The ground
Splash blocks carry water off your foundation.
Match the sign you see to its repair
Find your row. We will ask about it on the phone.
| The sign you see | What it usually means | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Overflowing or sagging gutters | Clogged run or pulled hangers | Cleaning, rehanging, guards |
| Stained fascia or peeling paint | Missing drip edge or rotted fascia | Drip edge plus new fascia where overflow rotted it |
| Shingle granules in gutters | Worn shingles shedding grit | Inspection |
| Wet basement after heavy rain | Downspouts emptying at the foundation | Rerouting, extensions, splash blocks |
| Ice dams or attic moisture | Weak attic ventilation, backed-up eave | Ventilation check, ice and water shield |
Rowhouses, two-families and garages: where Queens roofs shed water badly
Attached rowhouses and semi-detached houses share a gutter line, and their roofs meet the neighbour's wall. Without kick-out flashing there, runoff pours into the siding. Once it gets behind, see how we handle water already inside the wall.
Single-family and two-family homes often have long eaves with undersized gutters. Detached garages add one downspout emptying onto the driveway or the house.
Kick-out flashing checked
Book the drainage inspection before nor'easter season
Call in late summer or early fall, before the heavy rain. If wind has already torn something loose, storm repairs to gutters and flashing come first. The visit covers:
- Gutter pitch and every hanger
- Valleys, and flashing at walls and chimneys
- Underlayment and drip edge at the eaves, with soffit and attic ventilation
- Where each downspout lets out
We finish with a written free estimate before we leave.
Ask about your gutters, then book the visit
Yes, if they are sound and pitched right. Sagging gutters get rehung first.
Just the bad section, when the rest holds up. Leaky sectional runs get replaced with one-piece gutters.
Yes. We move it or extend it so it lets out on your side.
